Top US Road Trips for Fall

As more countries relaxed their travelling restrictions over the summer period, road trips became the primary means of transportation even for those who used to prefer flying to faraway destinations. According to a recent survey conducted by the U.S. Travel Association, 68% of travellers “continue to feel safest when travelling by personal vehicle”. Nearly half of the respondents (45%) indicated they are likely to travel by car due to the reduced social contact, as travel companions are likely to be part of the same household. As colder weather has seen a return of Covid-19 infections, the car will solidify its position as the safest mode of transportation. With summer behind us, it is time to look ahead at the opportunities that the cold season brings. Below are some of our favourite road trips as inspiration.

There are few better places for leaf-peeping than the Kancamagus Highway, a 34.5 miles scenic stretch in New Hampshire’s breathtaking countryside. Before you embark on this autumnal adventure, make sure to fuel up as there is a lack of gas stations, restaurants, stores, and hotels on the trail. Conversely, the landscape is dominated by the magnificent White Mountains, Sabbaday Falls, and national forest campgrounds.

Today, the Mohawk Trail is a wonderland for nature lovers, but originally the trail connected Native American tribes scattered across the Atlantic coast. The route offers 69 miles of astounding views of the Berkshires and Taconic Mountains, running parallel to the Deerfield River and the Connecticut River. The trail is also a driver’s paradise as its infamous hairpin turn, cannily named Dead Man’s Curve, tests even the most experienced drivers.
